wow, d16y6 trannys are WEIRD!
My friend blew up my 3rd tranny it was a 95 SI coupe tranny which is basically like all the EX's with a shorter 2nd. We put in a 97 hx which is the same as the dx's tonight and man it feels weird. It pulls to a tad over 40 in 1st, near 75 in 2nd, and i haven't gotten it up to past 3rd yet since it's like 1 am and i'm freaking tired.
Boost+long gears+good gas mileage= JKan
We'll see how she does at the track, the gearing is so long it took out a shift in my run, i heard 3rd goes to 110 yay!

it's my D in a B
thats the very reason why those trannies suck for n/a (I don't think mines the same one, but its very tall).... I have to floor it in second to get around in the mountains, and I never need to go past 3rd, even on the highway. 5th is just for cruising downhill at 85+ mph. :ghey:

It's just like using the CX tranny on a DX. 1st=41mph 2nd =72, 3rd=115, 5th=65mph@1800rpms. I can't totally verify 3rd gear because I'm NA, and I run out of track first, and still have 2800rpms left of it. I hit 3rd at the 1000' mark. If I could get a turbo kit that would spool to full boost at 2800 rpms, this setup would be crazy sick. Probably wouldn't last very long, though.

I have a CX tranny. DX Engine. I think the CX red lines around 5000 RPMs, and the DX red lines at 6800. So all gears are basically 1800RPMs longer. It's sick. Idling in 1st gear is 6mph, so it sort of does suck off the line, but I wouldn't care if I were boosted, though.
I've thought about boosting this 1.5L... A machinist friend of mine said he'd slap me if I tried it, but I'm bigger than he is. I think I could take him. Maybe after I finish building up my DSM, I'll try it. I saw a picture of it once, but it looked Photochopped.
JKan2001, it would be interesting to see what dyno results you get with that tranny before/after. I bet the numbers look lower, but with less shifting, the 1/4 mile times would be faster. Run it with the smallest steelies you can fit when you go back to the track. That will help the low-end a lot.

I think there was a write up on a VTEC head on the D15 block, then I think it would be ok to boost. Build the block from the crank to pistons, do cylinder head work, boost it. Should be good.

Ah... 6th gen... 92-95 dx redline/rev limiter is at 6800 rpms.
Dimi, why do you think I'd need VTEC for a turbo setup? LS turbo setups work like gravy. My DX 16v head is in great shape and freshly rebuilt so I dunno why it wouldn't hold it... new valve seals, seats, re-ground valves, oil seals, etc... Would there really be that much of an advantage? I'd have to toss my polished valve cover, too.
