Default 1st -> 2nd grind...

It seems to be grinding more and more often when I quickly shift from 1st into 2nd. It's a long, embarrasing, grind like I missed the shift or something, but it still goes into 2nd. Any ideas what this is?

I'm thinking it's clutch related, but I'd like a 2nd opinion. My clutch has almost 80k miles on it and the master cyl has a slight leak (but the fluid level is normal).

I think it might be cause the clutch isn't disengauging all the way. I'm not sure how to fix this besides gettin a new clutch/pressure plate?

Could be your synchros on their way out, or you are shifting too fast for them. It could be a clutch, although mine did it with stock and my new ACT as well. It doesnt do it all the time, just sometimes when I shift on the faster side.

New tranny fluid fixes most tranny problems.

The transmission fluid was flushed not that long ago. The grind is only when I shift quickly. It does it from 2nd -> 3rd too, but not nearly as easily, as loud, or as much. It's kind of a casually driving fast problem... When I just open it up in 1st gear then go for 2nd, it'll grind all kinds like I missed it. If I do things a little slower when shifting, it won't do it. And when I'm doing things real hard and real fast (ie racing), it doesn't do it then either (3rd still does it, but it's very very brief). I've been careful to avoid the grinding lately, but now I'm chirping the tires a lot.

unless you rev match, you can't get into gear without using the clutch.

when your upshifting alittle common sense goes a long way. You will just need to shift slightly slower than when you shift normally using the clutch. Down shifts you will need to rev match.

By shifting without using the clutch we can determine if the problem is with the clutch not disengageing fully or if the tranny needs servicing.

If its the tranny you could try using some redline or lighter tranny fluid than whats in there now. If it really becomes a problem trannys are pretty cheap. (Cheaper than a rebuild)
