1999 rl transmission swap?
I have heard of people swapping 3.5 for a 3.2 block on the TL, and some have said you can keep the tl tranny. If this is true, then how about installing the 5 speed auto from a TL into an RL.
I have not seen the specific gear ratios, but I assume that 1st gear is lower, and that 5th is a higher overdrive than the RL's 4th. Seems to me the RL would greatly benefit from a lower 1st, for better off the line power. Even if not, the better overdrive should certainly inprove MPG and even engine life. Any ideas, suggestions, comments, etc???
Anyone know of a shop that would be able to help me with this? If I had a lift, I could do it myself. Interfacing with the computer can't be all that difficult. All I need from my shifter is P R N and D.
I dont use the lower gears. I dont need dashboard gear indication, either.
As soon as I receive my (just ordered) service manual, I will begin looking at the computer interface aspect. but mechanically, anyone tried it, or researched it?
