Transmission removal
I'm getting ready to do a clutch in my '89 Integra. How necessary is a true transmission jack? Any other ghetto methods I should know about for removing/lowering the trans.?
Thanks,
Erik

I just had the transmission out of my civic on wednesday. I put the car on four stands and took the transmission out and put it in without a jack, it only weighs 50 or 60 lbs.
If that doesn't work for you, a regular floor jack will work.

Looks like the special thing about a tranny jack is that it has a big wide tray on top. If you use a normal jack, you just get down there & guide the transmission down so it doesn't topple.

I do it by hand like prostang460. I just unbolt everything, grab the mount and wiggle it off, and then lower to the ground by hand. Putting it back in, I just slid the tranny under, lifted it up with one arm, and had a buddy help slide it into place, pretty simple.
