Hello everyone. I've been lurking for a few weeks now while I source my next car purchase. Currently I drive a 1989 BMW 325iS. It's possibly the most fun I've owned. It's light, nimble, and offers the pleasure of RWD. However, since it's 14 years old and German, it's not reliable. I do not have the urge to dump big bucks into the car to rack up 66 miles a day on my roundtrip to work each day. Enter Honda. My first car was a 1987 CRX Si and it was nearly bulletproof. I feel bad for the people that use Honda as the butt of all car jokes. Sure they have their more then fair share of idiots, but the cars are dependable and require minimal maintenance. While I'm not crazy about waiting to make power so late in the powerband, I'm willing to give it a try. Hey, that's why I'm here.

Right now I'm tracking down '96+ GS-Rs. Here are the two I've found that seem like wise buys.

#1 1996 Acura Integra GS-R
82K miles. Black with black cloth interior. Loaded. $10,900. (Small dealership) They offer some type of warranty I'll have to find out about. And I'm well aware that if the timing belt hasn't been completed, it's due for a new one in less then 8K miles.

#2 1999 Acura Integra GS-R
33K miles. Dark green with parchment leather interior. Loaded. $13,400. (Private seller) There is a factory warranty that runs out in September. The owner told me the valve cover had some leaking that was repaired under warranty (leaked after valve adjustment).

What do you guys think of these two? I think the '99 is a no brainer. Lower miles and younger. What are the differences (besides the front fascia/lights) between the early model Integra's and the late model Integra's? Any positive, constructive feedback is appreciated. Thanks!:thumbup:

all the 94+ GSR's have the same engine in it.. b18c1.. I wish i had bought a newer car.. i have a 94 and it has 92k miles on it now.. bought it when it had 85k.. had to tune it up a bit! all in all im sure you'll be pleased with integras.. good luck to you!

if u have the extra 3g laying around, get the 99, otherwise, get the 96 for cheaper. both are awesome platforms.

Spoke with the salesman that has the '96 Integra GS-R for sale. He doesn't know whether or not the timing belt has been changed but said he would check it for free (whoopty-doo) if I purchase the car and I would only pay for the cost of (their) labor to have it replaced. And it only carries a 2 month/2,000 mile warranty. I also asked if the car had any modifications (aka, owned by a youngster) and he said "I dunno.. I think it may have an exhaust or intake. Nothing major."

Needless to say I think I'll pass on that one and look at the '99 GS-R.

i say 96 because of the ecu. but 99 becuase of the reliability.

From my searches it appears swapping the ECU's isn't possible. No?

96-01 used the OBD-II. 94-95 used OBD-I.

Go for the newer GSRs - they have better interiors than early model Integras.

steering wheel is a little bit different (i think they spelled out ACURA on the steering wheel for the older models), seats are just a little different (integra seats never look the same whenever i see pictures), minor center console changes (colors of the temperature/climate control slider)...

they interior overall is the same, it just looks better in the newer tegs
