With my 2003 EXV6 Sedan, I am seeing very low MPG. I am at ~ 2800 mi. on the odometer. My terrain is hilly, I ascend up and down a hill everyday between work and home, not to mention stop and go traffic. What I am seeing it that every 180-200 miles my low gas indicator light comes on and I have to fill it up. I use regular unleaded (87 octane). Is there something wrong with my car, or is it because of the hills?

you burn more gas climing up and down hills every day stop and go traffic can eat up your gas your car might perform better if you use 89 or 93 octain because of the bigger engine .

the faster you go the more gas you are going to burn but the hills are your answer to your problem

Well I counted three things wrong.

1) When I drive the piss out of my car, I get about 280 miles per tank. Normally I get about 380-400. He should be getting far better mileage.

2) Adding 93 will not help :slap: The octane rating has nothing to do with performance, it is simply a rating for when the fuel will detonate. The unique thing about the 2003 Accord V6 is that putting in 91 will actually increase horsepower and torque by about 10 and 10 ft-lbs, but it's a rare case of an engine that has an ECU that advances timing with 91 octane. My engine actually loses a few horsepower with 91 octane. You should always go with the recommended octane. Mileage will certainly not improve.

3) The size of the engine has nothing to do with anything.

I dont know but shi* it must be nice to see 300+ miles a tank...

I am lucky if I get 240 before I have to fill up an dI run my car past when the light comes on.

You saying you got 380-400 before makes me think somthing is wrong with my car too... I mean I live in a city, Orlando, and I could understand like 50miles diffrent but damn over 100, lol I feel like my car is BROKE...

I use 93 oct.

Please stop using 93. It's likely that you're losing power. The engine is designed for 91 but retards timing to accomodate 87 with power loss.

Guys...fill up your tank, reset a trip odometer, then the next time you fill it see how many miles you have and do some math. In hilly/city driving you should be seeing low 20's and in highway you should see mid-high 20's. That's the only way to find out for sure.

525miles on 87 Octane since day 1. I could go 570 but that pushes. 33.6MPG is a thing of beauty. Day to day is 22-28 depending on local grocery runs and crap.

I edited above post after you posted...33.6MPG on highway cruising at 70MPH. This happens on every road trip. I weigh...well a lot. All told, myself and my girl and the TV and other crap we take...600lbs.

Holy shit. The J30A4 is amazing. I get 28MPG cruising at 75-80, I've never touched 31 or 32 MPG.

I truely feel like my car is broke. 1st I had to get a new alternator, I get the sulfer smell once in a while and the gas mileage is an issue too.

98CoupeV6, I have done what you recommend. I believe the tank holds 17 gallons. When I I fill it, I put in about 15 gallons.
I get less then 200 before I put in another 15 gallons. So 200mi / 15gal = 13mpg. For the 2800 miles I have had my car, this is the normal occurance. I uses 87 regular octane gas from Texaco. If I could get 21mpg I would be happy. Any suggestions? I do intend on taking it to the dealer.
