Default 1997 Civic Questions/ Poor Performance

Hey All,

I have this 97 Civic, mostly stock except for CatBack system and an AEM intake. Lately it has been running sort of sluggish (like it is struggling against a hard wind, though no wind is present) and bogged down. The car is just at 80000 miles with excellent maintenance, and is in excellent condition. I do of course realize that my engine isn't the greatest, but being that I don't have the dough for an engine swap or turbo build up, I am just trying to do with what I have. Any suggestions as to what might be causing this sluggishness? Could it be a sensor, or something else? The engine light isn't on either.

Thanks in Advance

P.S. The car has run well with the above mods, but has just recently started doing this.

I would imagine if it was a sensor that it would have set off a CEL. here are some things to check,
plugs
spark plug wires
fuel filter
When was the last time you cleaned you AEM filter

that is all i can think of right now

Most likely spark plugs or wires. Almost time for 90K service anyway.

I change my spark plugs at least once a year. And it's cheap to do.

most likely its something to do with your ignition i.e cap, rotor, plugs or wires.

also on a side note, have you replaced your timing belt and waterpump yet?

Default 90k Service

I haven't done the 90k service yet, going to do that in the fall before winter. Is there noticable difference after the service? Thanks for the replies though, this is quite helpful.

I had the same thing on my 98 Civic. Sluggish for a while and after a while car wouldn't start. Igniter was to blame.
