Default Synthetic engine oil

hi, i have a 98 civic ex coupe, with 150,000km on it, and i am thinking to change the oil to synthetic. But i have heard that changing to synthetic at high mileage would cause leaks, is this true and why would it? i thought synthetic is better oil?

and should i use 5w30 or 10w30?

thx

He said 150,000 kilometers, not miles - about 90,000 miles; not _overly_ high.

Why are you planning on switching to synthetic?

My usual philosiphy (sp?) is, if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

So if conventional motor oils have worked up to now, I'd stick with them

cause honda is charging $30 canadian for an regular oil change, and if i bring synthetic for them to change, it would cost about $40 including filter and oil.

Most mechanics would say that changing to synthetic at high mileage would cause leaks and other problems. You have to start using synthetic oil when the engine is new. Also you can't go from Synthetic to Regular :nono:

Stick with the regular. And do it yourself.
