Default are cars w/o power steering more stable?

i was wondering if cars without power steering are more stable in a racing sitation. at high speeds if a car had power steering wouldn't the steering wheel move around a lot more then a car without it would?

depends.. current and "to come" power steering technology tighten up the steering the higher the speed... so in your civic.. yes.. in a new m3? nope

yeah, it depends on the car. They are coming out with some pretty damn snazzy power steering systems these days... like the new rx8...very responsive, very stable, very communicative.

Driving without power steering sucks. I tried it for about a day.

its not that bad, its just kinda a pain in tight parking situations. Feels much better out on the road tho. All you have to do is take of the P/S belt, open the P/S bleeder valve and crank the wheel back and forth to remove all the fluid. Then cap off the valve and viola! Manual steering.

If you decide you like it that way, you can remove the pump all together and save some weight.

The 'best' way is to switch out racks but who'd do that (certainly not me.) Driving w/o the belt takes getting used to it; you can feel the road better with the Civic.
