okay guys ... be nice ...

the exhaust is the part of the drive train which removes emissions from the engine. it consists of:

headers (which are attached to the engine block)
cat converter
and the muffler

when people say "exhaust" they're referencing the parts from the cat converter to the muffler.

sweet, ure a total newb. its all good. this a good place to learn. an catback exhaust would be all the piping from the catalytic converter back all the way to the muffler. im sure someone has somepics on here. anymore questions and we'll be glad to help. but one thing, there is search button on the top right corner, use it a lot and if nothing is found, then ask. later. and welcome.

edit: haha damn beat me to it. oh well, he said it. he was a little more thorough tho cause i though u just meant the basic exhaust.

you'll also hear different terms for the "exhaust" either ...

"cat back" which replaces the piping and muffler from the cat converter all the way to the back.

and

"axel back" which is basically a short portion of piping and the exhaust can. it runs from the rear axel to the back.

both have their benefits, but you want your car to have the largest diameter piping. on an accord V6, most people go with the comptech axel back system. the stock piping is already at 3 inches and most aftermarket cat backs are 2.5 inches.

DEFINATELY NOT WITH AN EXHAUST ... most aftermarket exhausts destroy your low end torque, therefore it'll take alot more gas to get your car going.

best ways to max the fuel is to ...

change your sparkplugs
check you gas cap for leaks
check your tire pressure
make sure your air filter is clean
remove any un-needed weight from your car

may be true for most aftermarket exhaust, but by personal account, i can say that my mpg went up due to the exhaust. it's the only engine-related mod i have on the car. my mpg went up ave 2.5mpg after installing my exhaust. i don't have any technical data to support this, only receipts from the fill-up
