Default In the market for a used S2000...

Mom is thinking about trading her '94 Vette for a '00-'02 S2000. Is there anything I haven't heard that I need to know about buying a used one? Any recalls or weak areas (and I don't mean torque)? Thanks alot.

Get a 2002 or later model. They have the rear glass widonw and somewhat better sound system. No recalls that I've ever heard of.

What everyone has said is true; the '02's up do have a glass window and tweeters in the doors. I haven't heard anything about a change in interior materials, only colors for the red interiors. Only '02's after a certain date had the new oil jet bolts. The transmission change was very minor; the only thing changed was the clutch friction disk because the older ones were creating a resonant frequency and making noise at certain speeds in gears 2-4. This was addressed in older models with TSB 054. The '02's also had a very slight change in suspension with different sway bars.

NOW, all that being said, I don't think you can go wrong with an '00 or '01. When it comes down to it, the changes were relatively minor. I think the long and short of it is that if you can afford an '02+, go for it. If not, get the older car. You'll enjoy it just as much.
