2011 Honda Accord ups the ante by increasing mpg rating to 23/34 city/highway

While we've mentioned all sorts of different ways to improve fuel economy, Honda has shown that simply altering a few engine components, revising some gearing and tweaking aerodynamics can lead to significant miles per gallon gains without dishing out a lot of coin. For the 2011 model year, Honda has unveiled some updates aimed at improving efficiency for its Accord Coupe and Sedan.
Though the changes may seem minor, the efficiency improvements are quite dramatic. Starting with the exterior, Honda improved the aerodynamics with some minor tweaks. Additional powertrain improvements such as reducing engine friction and revising gear ratios for better economy have led to an improvement in the Accord's EPA fuel-economy rating. For the 2011 model year, the Accord four-cylinder sedan models equipped with an automatic transmission are expected to receive an EPA rating of 23 miles per gallon city and 34 mpg highway. The new numbers improve upon the outgoing model by two mpg city and three mpg on the highway, proving that even minor changes can make a big difference.
