Default I placed an order for my tires last night and got this email from tirerack...

I ordered 225/40/18 tires for my 1997 Accord.

"Unfortunately these tires are not going to work on your vehicle for two reasons:

1. They are too wide to fit within the fenders without rubbing. Suspension modification would be necessary.

2. Most importantly, they do not have enough load capacity to carry the weight of the vehicle, and are therefore unsafe to use. Basically, the tires will be stressed beyond their design limits, and could blow."

I told him to put my order on hold. I know alot of people here with 5th gens have the same setup for their cars. What should I do at this point?

The rubbing part could be fixed a number of ways, i.e. rolling fenders, etc... but the load capacity is the bad thing. You don't want a tire stressed because your car is too heavy or else they really will blow and you could get hurt or hurt other people. Ask tirerack what kind of tires they have that will work weigh wise. Thats just my opinion. Rubbing is one thing, but unsafe load capacity=

I don't get it though, a bunch of people on this board have the same size tires.

size has nothing to do with load capacity. well actually im sure it is affected in some way, but not all tires of the same size will have the same capacity. what brand of tires did you try to order?

I ordered Continental ContiExtremeContacts. I asked him if it was the brand was the problem, but he said its the size thats the problem.

max load for the conti's in 225/40-18: 1235
max load for oem mich. mxv4 195/60-15: 1201

225/40-18 actually caused alot of rubbing problems on my accord. i was lowered 2.5" and had camberkits f/r set at -.5deg.

if i still had the rims on, i woulda gotten 215/40-18
