my Rockford 4 channel amp drains 60 amps (a real energy pig)
i got stinger 2 guage wiring, a stock alt, and a optima battery but i am still wery that the amps are jus too much for my 140 max amp output alternator. what are guys running?

Hmm...
In my old 94 LS, I had 3 amps - a RF Punch 60ix, a RF Punch 100ix, and a Memphis ST1000d. I also had a 1 farad caps in there. The system is going on year 4 and no problems with the alternator.
In my Si, I had at one point 2 PPI PC4800 amps. Now it's just a RF Punch 200ix, a DEI 1100d, and a 1 farad cap.
Both systems do exhibit slight dimming when cranked up, but I don't do that too much anymore....

I think i'm draining about 40 amps currently on a stock alternator...I have a cap in there but it doesn't help a whole lot. When i upgrade amps in a couple weeks i'll also be upgrading alternators as well

I will be running 3 Amps (Kicker ZR360 x2 and Kicker ZX460 x1) which will drain about 220 amps at FULL TILT..but daily MUSIC listening will only be about 100 amps average...
Im on my STOCK alt at 80Amps.
I only get dimming when Im on a stop light at idle.

yeah im draining 60 i was thinking about aaddinf another rf amp that would drain an additional 40 so 100 amps total. on a stock 140 alternator in the desert heat....... doesn't sounf to good to me so im jus gonna stick with my 4 channels to power my mb quart compnents and 2 kicker comp vr's. the rear boston accoustics co-axials are powerd through my alpine head unit.

All you guys are working your alternators hard. It will cut the life span of the alt. I only run a 70 amp system. After 2 or 3 years now my alternator is not putting out spec power. It no longer recharges what I drain from the battery. Now when I'm home, I keep the battery hooked to a charger, but will be getting a new alt soon.
