So need ideas on a new car

Required:
<$70k, new, 4-wheel or all wheel drive, and some decent trunk space for ski trips.

What is the best AWD system?

Go!

Range Rover. I think I Killed Tupac has one for cheap.

<70k is like a HUUUGE price range. Are you looking for luxury or utility? Suuuuuubaroo fits the bill when I think cheap and good utilitarian vehicle. Audi has quattro. are you looking for car or suv or something inbetween?

1996 Nissan Pathfinder or if you want something newer you could go with a 2000

Just kidding, anyway if you want the best AWD system you should go with Subaru. They are far from luxury vehicles but their interiors aren't bad either. It will pretty much meet all of your basic perfectly. I loved my Suby and will probably have another one in the near future.

If you want something that is better looking or more luxurious then Audi's are pretty nice. They will run you a little bit more than a Suby tho. You could also look into a used Porsche Carrera C4 or C42 A used one can be found for under $70k

My dad just bought a 2010 Subaru Legacy 3.6. He really likes it so far. Not quite a $70k car, but it looks decent, nice interior, has good power, a great AWD system, and you can store a lot of junk in the trunk.

I just bought a Legacy 2.2 for a few grand, will suit me just fine

I think that the subaru's EJ boxer engine gives a nice smooth powerband and since they're fairly unchanged over the years theres a lot of support out there. Granted they're a PITA to work on.

If it came to me I'd probably go with a 2.5 Turbo Subaru or a Rav4 V6 AWD... I probably wouldn't buy into a CR-V as I still don't like the powerplant.. maybe RDX or MDX or Tacoma V6 4WD doublecab

You get the usual options in the US crowd with the majority of the decent ones being SUVs, if you're into that stuff.

Jeeps, I have no idea about the new powerplants, the ever closer moving towards casual consumers worries me a tad.

Range rover- Friend's family owns two, kid I know hates it in comparison to his old land cruiser- would not buy again [though it is comfortable]

Either or :o, an SUV is nice because of extra space but you can pile shit into anything

X6 has one of the best AWD system. add full snows for ski trips and you're all set.

You going to drive a carrera in the snow? Because if not you will need a winter beater anyway...and if the Porsche is just your summer car does it still need to be AWD?

i take that back. it was the X6M that has the best AWD system. the one in the standard X6 is not the same. so never mind.

IMO, any other SUV would be a compromise.

my first suggestion was A6 quattro avant or Q5... but it's a gamble of whether these will be reliable later on. i loved my A4 and i know a couple others who hardly had any problems...but i know more people who had problems

second suggestion, Sequoia Limited 4.6L 4WD. the 5.7L is badass, but completely unnecessary for most people...especially with the new 4.6L, it still hauls ass. the new sequioas are super nice inside, drives great, tons of space, and itll probably outlast you. lol.

third suggestion, MDX.

fourth suggestion, STi. smallest of the bunch, fastest of the bunch, and the least luxurious of the bunch. but it is the fastest and probably the most solid AWD. and its not even close to $70k

I would not buy just one car if I was going to spend $70k. Like Brett said, I'd get like a nice car and some decent and reliable used SUV to get around in.

Audi Q5 , Benz GLK350, 2009 Volvo XC60, Infinity Ex. of those "cross overs" I like the Q5 the best. A buddy of mine is shopping for them and it was just the nicest drive and interior finishing IMO. The Benz exterior design is win.
