Lowbrow's house build thread

Well, I guess it is my turn for my house build thread. I don't have the floor plans online right now, but I'm working on it. It is basically a 1500 sq ft single story house with a 24 x 24 two car garage. As of right now, I've cleared my lot, and have the foundation in, but framing should start later this week.
This is my lot from the back, this is basically just half of it, where the trees get thick at the front, it continues towards the road. It is abou 0.68 of an acre.

My driveway up from the road to where it will turn into my garage.

The secret lot clearing weapon.

They wouldn't let me run it...

The following two trails are behind my lot on a farmer's land. They are basically just walking / 4wheeling trails

A big hole in the ground

And the poured foundation, not backfilled.

More to come in the following weeks.

Pimping!!!

Why the separate basement setup? PLEASE tell me you are putting in a pit area in your garage and that's why you have a "basement" to your garage.

Thanks guys, and as for the garage, I actually took the pic before they filled it back in with soil, so it will actually is just a regular garage, with the 6 inches of concrete. I'd love to have a pimp garage, I'm hoping someday to add on a bay - and put a lift in there - that would own.

That's awesome! So are you actually involved in the construction (ie swingin' hammers and whatnor), or are you just "supervising" the contractors? Either way, pretty sweet.

Do houses typically have basements in your area? I personally love the "free" extra space you get with a basement.

The house is about 15 minutes from the city, just in a small community. I was involved in the clearing of the lot (all the ppl in the pictures are me or my family). But the actual construction I won't be involved in, more so just supervising. What I will do is finish the inside of the garage after they have it framed and weather tight, as well as finishing 2 of the bedrooms myself. I can do that in my spare time.

Alright - thanks for all the positive comments! It is time to update again, currently all the walls are basically up, roof is on and shingled. The plumbers are coming soon to rough in the in floor so the concrete can be poured over.

Awesome! Are you in the North East?

I worked construction for the past year here in Texas. I used to live in Pennsylvania, and the building process is completely different!

I lived in PA for 10 years, I'm aware of the basement part.

Down south, we frame the house as it is being built. This is what caught my eye:

lol - thanks folks. Yeah the layout caught me eye, it sorta eliminated some un-needed things and kept the living area mostly open.

And our build process is a little different up here, especially since we can't do exterior work year round. So basically they try to get everything done on the outside ASAP this time of year, because it is getting down to freezing now, this is the last week they allow septic systems to be put in. So basically they haul ass on the exterior so they don't have to work in the cold.

Hey, not a whole lot visually has changed, I'm a lil behind on my pictures, the electrical, and plumbing have all been roughed in. Also all the exterior walls have been insulated, however I don't have pics of that yet - I also have a flu and wood stove installed, but no pics of that yet either, also no pics of the exterior doors after they have been installed.

Living Room

Front door/Living room/Stairway to the basement

Hallway to the bedrooms and bathrooms

Should have some more pics soon, they are putting in the heating soon and will be putting up the drywall shortly thereafter. Working on picking out cabinets and floors now.

great layout. Good progress... what kind of heating?

My favorite part of visiting a house under construction is the smell :o

Thanks - the heating is an electric boiler with in floor heating with a cement overpour. I also will have a propane fireplace in the living room, and a woodstove in the basement. And the smell is awesome, nothing like the smell of fresh cut wood, which is why I have a woodstove, and live in a small woods.

Heated floors FTW but they can get expensive on maintenance and repairs.
