is it "normal" for them to not like you/get along with you?

sooo.. im going to get things moving with the lady friend and have decided to meet her dad mano-a-mano and tell him first....

well... her parents are separated and her mom remarried... her mom likes me, but her.. how you say... dads... are another story... we have nothing in common..... i like her father better, and get along with him fine... we both like fishing so i guess a fishing day would be nice (he has a boat too)...

her step dad tho is a bit of a douche bag... he is a window sales man and a jew.

.... we have nothing in common and our weekends spent at her parents usually involve me pretending to be interested in whatever thing he just bought...

now, should i go talk to Both of them about this ?

i'd say go talk to dad ... the norm as far as i know is that if you're going to ask for a daughters hand in marriage you ask the father. the step-dad has no say imo as its not really his daughter.

last girl i dated her parents always acted like they liked me but then i'd find out her mom would talk shit behind my back about how i wasnt going anywhere and i was a bad bf and allthis shit ... her daughter lived at home, still does, still has shitty jobs, and she was running around with 2 other guys ... i on the other hand own a house and a good job ... her dad and i got along great though

you're family isn't marrying her, you are. you're family will at least come to accept her.

my sister married this guy that we do not like at all, but it's her choice and he is the father of two of her kids so we do our best to accept him into family events and everything even though we arent fans of him and his past.

I called up my fiancee's mom and dad separately (they are divorced) about 1 week prior to proposing and asked them. Would have preferred to ask them in person, but they both live out-of-state.

If they had somehow said no, it wouldn't have stopped me from proposing. But it scores major bonus points with your future in-laws and you have essentially nothing to lose by asking them. It's a nice touch and both of her parents really appreciated it. Plus it serves to give them a heads up beforehand so they have time to mentally prep.

It helps that I like and get along with Vicki's parents, and that they both really like me. I can see how it would be totally awkward if you didn't get along with her folks.

One of my coworkers who has been married for 10 years and has 3 kids said the one thing he regretted about proposing to his wife was that he hadn't asked her parents beforehand.
