Pretty kool!
Toyota needs to quit playing around and release another supra type sports car though.
With the engine specs (197 HP at 7,000 rpm and 150 lb-ft of torque)FT-86 just reminds me of the scion TC:dunno:

Yeah, I really like the design of the FRS/BRZ, but it really needs ~300hp to get me interested. I love the concept of a cheap, coupe-only FR platform, but it needs to have more power than a 10 year old RSX-S.

The BRZ STI (horrible mishmash name btw -- what happened to real names?) might be pretty cool.

I think subie is going to take this one all the way. Toyota would rather market to the masses. Eh, I get it.

I think they focused on making the IS300 fill that role, particularly the IS-F.

Reviving this thread because they've been slowly releasing more details, and the FR-S/BRZ has been making the rounds at auto shows.

I'm really, really liking this car. It looks great and I love the design ethos. Still hope they make an STI/Spec B version with 50 -100 more hp, as I would seriously, seriously consider getting one.

Scuttlebutt is the FR-S version will be $22-24k, and the BRZ will be $25k-$27k but will be a bit more feature-packed and have things like standard navigation, bluetooth, USB/i-pod and optional leather, heated seats and keyless start. Subaru has confirmed that they will be turbocharging the FA20 engine, but hasn't confirmed which vehicles will be getting it.

I think I actually like the way the FR-S version looks a bit better, but am more drawn to the features of the BRZ.

Had I not replaced the Integra last summer, I would be waiting, with check in hand, for a FR-S.
It's fantastic to see Toyota get real about building affordable sports cars again.

Part of me wishes they'd abandon the Scion shtick, though.
The car deserves to be sold as a Celica. Or as a 2000GT.
