Default HELP! - want to identify an Acura submodel

Hi - is there any way to identify whether a car is a Legend or some other Acura body/model, from the vehicle number on the registration slip? The slip says the vehicle ID is JH4KA3166LC002637, the year model is 1990.

Feel free to reply to my regular e-mail if you like: P@A-L.com.

Thank you very much!

KA7=91-95 4 Dr
KA8=91-95 2 Dr

Info from the Legend Temple: http://www.inexpro.com/legend_temple/

Dear Dave C. -- Thanks very much. I couldn't locate that info in the Legend Temple site; could you point me at it? Also, if the registration rads "1990 ACUR" and then gives that vehicle ID number, what might it actually BE?! ... or, how could I go about figuring out what it actually is? There is also some lettering across the rear end, that seems to say 'LEGEND' but it's indistinct in the foto I have, and could have been added after the fact anyway. (I could send some snapshots of the car but don't see an attachment button in here.) - Peter

I may have given you some bad info. Checked on the www.acura-legend.com forums and found a post where the guy said his 2 G1 coupes were KA3s.

If that's correct (bet it is) the car is a 1990 L coupe with a 5 spd tranManufactured at the Saitame plant. Car S/N 002637.

Have the car inspected by a independent Honda/Acura specialist before laying down any $$.

Default KA3 -- and advance checkup

Ah, so! Thank you very-very for the added information.

I don't think I'm going to be able to get a full mechanical check of this car, as the dollars are relatively low (under $2800), the parts of the body I can see are looking good (haven't seen the right side yit!), AND the inspection will be out-of-town for me. I do notice that there seems to be a right-side hubcap on that left side!--- http://pages.sbcglobal.net/cosmopoli...left_3-qtr.jpg

On this model do you think there is anything special to look out for (anything PARTICULARLY likely to cause trouble)? - Peter

Two biggest G1 problems are rust around the gas filler and rear wheels wells and ticking valve train tappets. Ticking valve train can sometimes be cured by oil flush products. Can't see any signs of rust but look closely. At least run a CARFAX report on the VIN.
