Pop goes the...steering wheel?

Well not exactly, but I've recently noticed that whenever I turn my steering wheel after the car has cooled down, I hear a "pop" coming from the front wheel area. It's not the same popping sound that the transmission makes when shifting from R to D (or vice versa). Could this be a prelude to faulty CV joints? Has anybody else experienced this problem?

Sounds like the CV's. Get under the car and check them out. Make sure the boots aren't ripped.
