---------------------

1) Remove the passenger side kick panel (2 clips)

2) The blue connector shown will be inserted in the green rubber holder.

3) In order to override the ECU's control of the timing, we need to jump the blue connectors terminals with a paper clip, piece of wire or something similar.

4) Start the car and wait until the cooling fan comes on twice to ensure the car is up to proper operating temperature.

5) Hook your timing light's inductive pickup to the spark plug wire for cylinder #1 and it's power connectors to the car battery. The timing light should start to flash.

6) There is a pointer sticking out of the timing belt cover. There is also 4 marks on the crankshaft pulley. The white mark is top dead centre. The red mark is the mark for the proper timing on your vehicle. The two colourless marks on either side of the red mark indicate +/- 2 degrees.

7) Point the timing light at the mark on the timing belt cover. if your timing is set correctly, everytime the light flashes, the red mark on the crank pulley should be aligned with the mark on the timing belt cover. If it does not line up, the timing needs to be adjusted. To adjust the timing, the three bolts that hold the distributer must be loosened.

8) If the red mark is lit up while it is to the right of the timing cover mark, your timing is advanced and if it is to the left your timing is retarded.

9) To retard your timing, turn the distributer slightly clockwise and recheck with the light.

10) To advance your timing, turn the distributer counter clockwise.

11) If you wish to advance your timing, adjust the distributer so that the colourless line to the left of the red line is aligned with the mark on the timing belt cover. This will set your timing two additional degrees in advance. I wouldn't recommend advancing it anymore than this.

12) If you have an adjustable timing light, adjust it to the recommended timing of your vehicle and then use the white line as a reference.
