Default Replacing air filter in 1997 Accord

1997 Honda Accord 4 cyl Front Wheel Drive Manual 158,00 miles
----------------------------------------------------------------
I'd like to replace the air filter on my 1997 Honda Accord.

However, the front part of the air filter housing is blocked by a plastic exhaust that appears to fit into a pipe.

This plastic piece must be removed so I can remove the air filter housing cover, but I see no way to remove the piece other than to yank it out.

What is the safe and correct way to reach the air filter?

Thanks.

That is the air intake. You shouldn't have to yank it, but lift smoothly and twist and it should some right off. If not, spray some WD-40 around the joint and then it should come off.

you shouldn't need excessive force but you do kinda have to pull and wiggle abit.
