Default How do you check timing on a 5th gen

I have a timing gun at home we used for our other cars. Now I've never checked the timing on my 5gen so I'm wonderni how u do it. On my old hooptie, you clipped on wire ont the ignition coil, one on the first igntion wire.... but on a 5gen the ignition coil is inside the distributor... so what do you hook it on to?

if you've done it... it would help me a great deal as to how u did it

There should be a + and - battery clips and a spark plug clip. Put the plug clip on the #1 plug wire and the other two clips on the battery and point it at the crank pulley.

that's right. If you have a stock pulley, there's a red mark on there that you put in line with the marks on the lower timing belt cover. They look like the sights on a gun.

You loosen the 3 12mm bolts on the distributor and rotate the distributor to time the engine. It's really easy.

It's faaaa faaaaaaaaaaa south!

It's about 14 degrees to the right of the red mark.

The mark that you time against is on the lower timing belt cover. If you're looking down on it, it's to the right of the motor mount. It looks like gun sights.

Do a search on google or something for a site... OR buy a Haynes or something...
