Default Code P1768

Hello Everyone!

I have a 98 Honda Accord Automatic 2.3L. Over the weekend the CEL came on. I took the car to AutoZone to get the codes. One is P0420, I'm thinking about doing the Spark plug non- fouler. Have anyone had any issues with this?

The other code is P0420. I coudn't find an exact answer for this code. Does this mean I have to replace the Transmission?

Definition:
Lock up clutch does not engage- stuck in 4th gear.

Probable Cause
1-Open or short circuit condition in pressure control solenoid A circuit
2-Poor electrical connection
3-Failed pressure control solenoid A

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks guys!

And P1768 is a problem with the automatic tranny.

I meant to say that the second code is P1768. So basically I need to replace the tranny?

Make sure you have the radio code. Then, disconnect the battery for like 10 minutes. Reconnect and drive. See if the codes come back.

If the car drives fine and your tranny fluid is red and smells fine you should be OK.

On my V6, I had an electrical problem that triggered the tranny to not work right. D4 was flashing. I just fixed that electrical problem and reset the ECU by disconnecting the batt and the problem went away.

Thanks,

I guess I'm going to do the Spark plug non- fouler as is the second time that I get the P0420 code. The tranny fluid is red and smells fine. I already reset the light by disconnecting the battery. I'm just going to wait and see if I get the P1768 code again. Where can I check to see if its and electrical problem?

Unfortunitly, you are kind of in the mercy of the codes to find problems.

I added a remote starter that initially was confusing the transmission computer so i knew what the issue was. I changed the wire that was tied to the starter crank and it was no longer confusing the tranny ECU.

Do you get a D4 flashing when you start the car? The D4 should light up steady when you just start, not flashing.

I had a 98 & I had the Helm repair manual. There were pretty detailed procedures for all the codes. I fortunately never had to deal with a tranny problem, and I don't own that car or book any more.

The list that I kept simply says
P1768 (16) stuck in 4th; L-U-Clutch not engaging
I didn't 'save' the actual diagnostic procedures...

The lockup solenoids are at the front of the tranny, sorta against the radiator, #8 in the picture. Without better information, you could just look for loose/dirty/corroded plugs. Even if you need those valves, that's WAY better than needing a new tranny.

The D4 Have never flash, it always lights up steady.
I got the Check Engine light when I was on the Highway. Maybe I was giving it too much gas? I'm just waiting to see if I get this P1768 code again.
Thanks alot for the diagram JimBlake I would take a look at the plugs.

Thanks alot guys.

I had problem with remote start and D4 light flashing recently on Accord 2000 LX V6. Can you let me know what wire you change to fix the problem? I was getting the code P0758. Thanks.
