Word. I guess if a car had both, it wouldnt make it past 10k miles would it?

Neither is perfect.
the only vtec engine i've owned that i knew drank lots of oil was my 94 accord ex (though the car was abused and not maintained properly before I bought it used)...my old gsr didn't drink oil and neither does our civic ex (statements such as vtec consumes oil is also an overgeneralization like turbos die at 100k)...only when a vtec engine gets older does the possiblity happen from hard driving (but the good part i was mentioning is that once oil pressure is low, vtec will not engage; where as when a turbo gets older and the oil starts to cake, it will always run no matter the situation...i've seen some pretty beat up bearing housings where the turbo self destructed)...then add to the fact that turbo engines also will consume oil when they get older

but you are right both have advantages and disadvantages...choose your poison

the point that vtec can shut off and no type of forced induction outside manual input (turning down boost manually or not engaging NO2) can do such a thing is a benefit that only variable valve timing enhanced engines have

I guess we agreed on the final answer. About VTEC burning oil, I said that you have to drive it agressively for a long period of time to do that. I have a GS-R and my 4th piston ring is on its way out. It seems like that's one of the most common problem w/ GS-R engine, interm of the internal. The rest is still perfect. The oil consumption when driven hard is a known fact and there's really nothing you can do about it.

I think comparing VTEC to turbos was relatively pointless.

I will not put turbo and VTEC together in the same sentence.

I will not cut and paste the same sentence and post it to the character limits

Well, seems that paying 4,000 over sticker for a Honda Accord six speed seems like a great deal compared to what my two local Dodge dealers will be asking for the SRT4 Neon. Just for kicks and giggles, I checked them out. Neither of them have one right now, but one said the asking price will start at 30,000 and the other said they will take bids on them with a minimum bid of 25,000. Sticker should be around 20,000. So, who wants to pay ten grand or more over sticker for a souped up Neon? I can spend 30 g's on the Accord six speed, Acura CL-S, BMW 325Ci, or a Dodge Neon. Damn, that Neon makes the choice really hard.

I don't know where you are, but if there's a costco around you area, get a membership and you can use their car buying discount. My friend got his SRT-4 out the door for less than $21k.

$30k for a srt...whatever...that's what a sti wrx will msrp around and you get a better engine built specifically for a turbo where the dodge unit is just a converted unit...plus you get awd getting more traction and 300hp

the srt is worth ~ $20k and that is a decent price but if they sell at a price near what a wrx ($23k) or even the wrx sti scoobie its a rip b/c the scoobies are just better platforms and sports sedans

Never once was my cut and paste option used in this thread. I agreed with what was said and posted it. I disagree with your methods of dissaproval. A PM would have been greatly appreciated. So let's cut the insults and I'll use my half a brain to apologize.
