Tokyo Motor Show 2007 - Events
There are auto shows and then there's the Tokyo Motor Show, which is by most accounts considered the show of all shows when it comes to outlandish concepts, mega debuts and what-ifs. Held on the same grounds as the annual Tokyo Auto Salon, the motor show is a more refined, subdued look at the world of all things automotive. But all of this doesn't mean the motor show lacks the element of surprise.
The truth is, much journalistic hullabaloo revolved around Nissan's new GT-R supercar, but that doesn't mean Honda showed up empty-handed. No, Honda made use of the platform that is the Tokyo Motor Show to debut its two newest concepts to the world: the all-new CRX, we mean CR-Z, and the PUYO, a fuel cell vehicle that makes out-of-the-box thinking sound downright conservative. Despite the PUYO's "cute factor," motor shows and websites will be about the closest most Americans will get to the latest people-friendly, enviro-box. The CR-Z, which is argued by many to be the CRX's replacement, is classified as a sports car yet is equipped with Honda's original gas-electric hybrid powertrain.
Of course, the Japanese version of the '08 Fit was also on hand, as was a model of the recently developed i-DTEC next-generation diesel engine-an extraordinary powerplant that promises to deliver an unprecedented marriage of performance and environmental consciousness-an element Honda has long focused on. Honda also toted out the FCX concept vehicle, the new Civic Type-R concept, a number of production vehicles like the S2000 Type-S and Inspire with its Variable Cylinder Management system as well as race cars like the Civic Hybrid 24-hour Nrburgring endurance car and, of course, some all around F1 goodness.
