Default Body Kit Blowout at Versus Motorsports - Events

Body Kit Blowout at Versus Motorsports - Events
On Aug. 31 we took a trip down memory lane. Versus Motorsport in Compton, Calif., held its first-ever garage sale. These days the company is best known for distributing Charge Speed body kits and Grease Monkey Honda apparel, but its roots go back over 10 years to a time when Civic and Accord bodies were routinely converted into EVOs, GTRs or even Mad Bombers.
The huge warehouse was stuffed to the top of its 30-foot ceiling with classic body kits of the past. To make room for the products that are moving today they were blowing out the old inventory at below-cost prices.
Walking through the aisles was like going back in time. There were widebody conversions for Civic hatchbacks and CRX hoods with big bulges like the Gude CRX used to run. There was even an extremely rare (it is one of two) widebody RSX kit that was fabricated for Acura's SEMA car a few years back. This kit consisted of a full set of replacement panels for the original show car, but somehow ended up in the back of the warehouse.
Our favorite find was a DC2 Integra California Type-R conversion. Youngsters today may not be familiar with it, but back in the day this was the shizzle. Before used JDM front end conversions became regularly available, this fiberglass bumper cover and a pair of Acura CL headlights was as close as you could get. This kit will be one of the classics 15 years from now when Generation Y hits its midlife crisis.
Aside from the body kits there was a massive collection of old Super Street and Import Tuner promotional items for sale. We bagged a bunch of JDM Johnny Wong T-shirts to taunt the new Super Street editor at the next company picnic. For those who missed it there will be another sale on Dec. 1. Collectors in the LA area may want to check it out to see what they can scoop up. Prices were ridiculously cheap with bumpers going for as little as $20 and hoods starting at $50.
