Winter riders

What do you plan to do with your bikes this winter? Ride no matter what? Storage? Keep it ready to ride incase a nice day pops up?

I am not sure what I am going to do yet.

I plan on riding till it is in the 30s in the morning. I have a big garage so I'll keep it ready to go unless I get bored and take it apart. I've got a few projects lined up for it this winter.

If it is anything like last year, there will be days where it gets warm enough to ride.

I am thinking I might ride in winter as well. If it is not ridden that day, should it at least be started?

No winter riding here in NW Illinois. It gets waaay too cold. Right after Thanksgiving, it's going to the dealership for sort of free winter storage.

They'll prep the bike for storage in their facility. In the spring, they'll bring it out and fully prep it for riding again. Pick up and delivery to your home via trailer.

The catch is that you have to spend $300 with them over the winter. Purchases can include parts, labor, gear, etc. Between some scheduled maintenance items and gear/accessory purchases, I'll hit that $300 mark. Might as well take advantage of the storage.

sorry, but cali-winter isn't really "winter" riding.

before my bike got the 2 of us in the fight w/ the tree, i rode a little in the winter...as long as it wasn't ball-shriveling cold & the road was in decent condition.

i kept it inside in the winter, so i never reaslly did the winter storage service. it stayed in the 2nd bedroom of my apt & once a week (usually sunday) i'd roll it out on the back porch & start it up & let it run for 10-15 minutes to get the motor warmed up & all the fluids recirculated. & like i said....i'd take it out for a quick ride weather permitting to get some heat in the tires.

invest in a good set of front & rear stands if you plan on letting it sit for an extended period in one place. this applies to any time of the year. in fact, mine stayed up on the stands year round if it was gonna sit for more than a day or 2. i got mine from Redline Stands. they are also quite useful for routine maintence, tire chanes, etc

HERE is a set on ebay for $75 + s/h....one hell of a deal!!!!

wooo, I just in to work and it 30 this morning. I wasn't really cold but I don't think I will do that again. it was foggy out and so I had a LOT of trouble keeping my mask clear, by the time I got to work there was ice on my gloves, jacket and patns and ice all over the front of the bike. I put on enough stuff to keep me warm but it took me like 10 minutes to get dressed up. So maybe only when it is 35+.

It's not bad at all.

From their standpoint, it drums up business they wouldn't normally have during the winter months.

Just rode into work this morning. Started out at 6:30am, the sun had not risen yet, and it was 36 degrees out and breezy.

I think I've found my riding limit. It was not fun at all.

my jacket and gloves seem to work pretty well. even down to the low 30s i haven't really been cold, I just throw on an 2nd pair of pants and a bandanna. only problem is my helmet really sucks and it fogs up, especially in western PA where it's foggy just about every morning. granted my commute is only like 15 min.

not exactly pittsburgh, I'm in the Beaver Falls area. If you ever go riding north of the city let me know though.

Your name doesn't happen to be Rick, does it? If it is, and you're married.. is your wife Linda? A lady by that name is buying my Rebel, and she happens to live in Beaver Falls as well.

Just checking!

There will be enough nice days here to ride, the biggest problem is all the sand & salt they put on the roads. No fun skittering across san while making a turn.

But I should still be able to get out often enough to keep from having to prep the bike for storage. Supposed to be gorgeous this weekend, I think I'll talk a little ride up through the mountains.

i havent winterized my bike yet but i should, it is in my parents garage 45 minutes away from my house so it isnt too likely that i will ride before next spring. i'll probably just have my dad fire it up for me once a week to get the fluids moving and make sure the battery doesnt freeze up on me

I dropped off my bike at the dealership for winter storage & maintenance. I rode 12.5 miles in 36 degree weather w/35mph winds. At first I thought I was bringing in my bike too early, but after that cold miserable ride I'm sure that I did the right thing.

She's in storage until the latest, March 31. Seems like forever.

They did have a 2004 Honda 599 at the dealership, 4,200 miles. It took all my self control not to start wheelin and dealin.

I've got an itch for either the 599 or 919. While I like my VLX, I'm not sure whether or not I'll stick with the v-twin crusier style bike.

yeah I like those a lot ^

My main gripe is that 25 years after my bike was made the efficiency of these is pretty pathetic. My 4dr. civc gets better mpg than the hornet. when you really think about that it is retarded.

I really like that 919. That might be my next bike when I'm done with the Bandit.
