Default Help with tire size.

I've got a 99 TL and just picked up some CL-S wheels. I would like to tuck 235's under it if I can. Does anyone know if 235/50-17's will fit? The spec's I've been seeing on 235/45-17's state a minimum rim width of 7 1/2" so I'm not sure if they will.

Comptech springs and Illuminas being installed in the next couple of weeks (if that's a factor).

The real question is, how far will your odometer be off if you put on 235/50-17s. Go to www.tirerack.com and they will show you what a correct size tire is for plus 1 applications on the TL. Also, I believe the CL-S rims are 7.5" in width and the TL-S rims are 7". But I am not 100% sure.

I can live with the speedo change. Mine is currently around 5.5% high and the 235/50-17 should only increase 2.2% from the 205/60-16's (If they will fit)

Which leads into another question: Has anyone had a problem with speedo accuracy? They swapped out my speedo and it had no effect. When the dealer called the factory, they said that the tolerance on the speedo is plus or minus 10% (which I think is outrageous. Odometer is dead on. They say that the odometer and speedometer both use different speed sensors. I'm trying to get them to swap out my speedo sensor but I'm not having much luck. (FYI - calculating speed by time through a distance or 3600 divided by the number of seconds that it takes to travel a mile)

Also, confirmed that CL-S wheels are 17X7 and TL-S wheels are 17X6.5

I really don't think 235s would fit on 7" rims. So you are probably out of luck. Your best bet is to upgrad the stock rims.

I looked up the 235/50-17's on Tire Rack. Great source of spec's. I'm thinking of going with the Michelin Pilot Sport A/S. The 235/50-17's are quoted as fitting on a 6.5 thru 8.0 inch rim. They are about 1" more in diameter than the stock 205/60-16's.

Do you think they will fit under under the TL? Or do you think a bad idea to try? I'm pretty sure the 225/50-17's are safe but I think I'd be happier with 235/50-17's if they fit.

Any advice is greatly appreciated Lord Vader.

I don't think anyone has put on 235s on a TL stock rims yet so you will probably be the guinea pig. Especially if you are lowering your TL, you might have rubbing issues. I think 225 is a safer route to go. Also, try to stay as close to the overall diameter to stock as possible so your speedometer won't be that far off.

I haven't heard of one recently. But if I hear one, I'll post the info here.
