Exhaust-muffler weld rusted
1997 Civic LX w/102k miles. While the exhaust pipe and muffler both look to be in great condition (e.g., no rust), the weld that holds them together has apprarently rusted through or broken off somehow and the car is loud as hell. I want to fix this the cheapest way possible. Any suggestions? I was thinking of maybe using a reducing adapter and putting the small end in the muffler, and the large end around the outside of the exhaust pipe - then sealing it all up with muffler cement. This would reduce the diameter of the muffler pipe by about 1/16" all around which doesnt' seem too bad, eh? I could also buy an aftermarket muffler off ebay for like $20. I'm sure it's not great quality, but then I could just splice it to the old exhaust pipe and voila - problem solved. I know I won't get much gain out of this solution, but it should quiet the noise at least a little, right? Any other suggestions or comments on which of my thoughts might work best?
Thanks

THink JB Weld would work, seriously? I also saw another product - Muffler Cement, which said it holds up to 750 degrees, whereas the JB Weld works only to 500. How how do you think the muffler gets? Also, would it be better to splice a pipe into the muffler and then around the exhaust pipe and "JB weld" it all together, or just try to JB Weld the existing pipe to the existing muffler/hole?

:werd: if you can find one that isn't completely rusted it'll probably be just as cheap as the exhaust repair crap, and will last longer. if you can't get to a junk yard find out how much a replacement would cost at autozone. you might be surprised.

or you just just buy a short sleeve of slightly larger diameter than the current piping, slide it over both ends & clamp it down FTW..
or find someone to weld that shit back up!
