squeeky brakes
Ok, I just changed my brakes about a week and a half ago, did everything according to the DIY for a civic, except I have a 2001, still mostly the same. Anyways, greased the backs of my pads, cleaned all the old debris off the caliper, spring clips, piston, etc. Well, my pads are squeeling, but only at low speeds, when comming to a stop. Yesterday, took eveything apart again, checked it a second time, cleaned everything again and put it back together, well it's still doing it, not nearly as much though.
Does this sound like glazed pads?? Rotors are fine, no grooves/pits, like glass.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance,
Chris

Did you break them in properly?
You do about 4-6 medium stops from 40mph.
Then you do about 3-4 HARD stops from 30mph.
And then let the car sit for about 2 hours (without the parking brake on, of course chock the tires) then it should be fine.
Did you scuff the brake rotors with some light sandpaper to get the anti-rust coating off? If not it probably got onto your brake pads and is going to do that for a bit.

Ok, i used napa organic pads, no specific name, maybe it's cause i cheaped out and bought the cheapest pads they had?
The rotors are the factory rotors, they're still in great shape, so no need to scuff them, correct?
is it too late to try the break in method above?

So you put new pads on old rotors? Usually not the best option but the remedy can be fixed. What you need do to is sand down the rotors. The rotors have bedded in with the old pads kinda like grooves on a record. Now you put new pads on that and the grooves do not match causing the squealing.
