Default Heavy duty pres. plate or xtreme?

Im buying a new clutch and pressure plate with my auto to manual in my 99 ex, and i was looking at a few different clutch kits. I noticed two were the same except for a different pressure plate, and it made the one with the "xtreme" plate (ACT) about 50-60 bucks more. What i was wondering is what difference it makes between the heavy duty pressure plate and the "xtreme" pressure plate from the ACT clutch kits, and whether it would be worth the extra 50-60 bucks to buy the "xtreme".

What do you plan to do with the car as far as driving & playing with it?

also what type of tires do you plan to be running?
LSD yes or no?
how much power do you plan to be putting down?

if you answer those questions, i'll recommend which one you should get!

Well, i plan on keeping it for a while, i just got sick of the auto, and im just bored driving it, and selling it really isnt working, ive just got basic bolt ons, header, intake, greddy exhaust, and i threw in a cam gear for no reason but to play with the ignition timing. Not really sure what tires as of yet, no LSD (would like it), no more than 200 hp, no turbo, thats why im going to run the manual version of the P2P instead of the p28.

A friend just told me that it just means they can withstand more pressure, which i figured, so if im not planning on running that much power, then its not worth the more expensive pressure plate, correct?

the stronger pressure plate will do nothing but have more clamping force for when you are adding more resistance (hp & traction).

The heavy duty pressure plate will do more than you need, let alone the extream. Save you self the cash.

Realize that HP isn't at all part of the equasion when looking into clutches. You need to consider your max torque and then determine which pressure plate will best fit your needs as they are all spec'd by torque ranges.

Yeah, i realized that too, the clutch said it should be good for 225 ft-lbs so i figured that was more than enough for what i plan to do. Thanks.

Exedy sport organic for the bolt-on win.

You could probably get an Exedy Stage 1 and be good to go. It doesn't sound like you have HUGE goals for your car, so I wouldn't worry about it.

I have always been using ACT. But I think I might swith to an Exedy with my new car when I get it.
