Default 99 civic stalls

Hey guys,
I have a 99 civic DX, I was driving it on the freeway the other day and I thought I heard the engine rev and die down a bit. I looked down and nothing seemed wrong so on I went. A few miles later I heard it rev again, only this time my speedo went to zero and there I was in the middle lane with a no power. I was able to get to the side of the road where I was able to start it right up. No further problems from the car. My wife told me that it had done the same thing to her when she was pulling out of her work parking lot. Any idea what could be causing this? We are going on a long car trip and I do not want to take this car if this could be serious.

i havent seen a problem like that on a 99 sorry bud.if you could get it to die and check spark and fuel psi that would be grate but it only dies for 30sec. or so hu and then stars right back up(a stab in the dark ignitor, main relay,or falty ignition switch)call you dealer and ask if ther is any recalls come to think of it ther is some recalls on the car i cant remember what thay are but all recall work is free.
