S2000 OEM Steering Wheel in a Civic???
Has anyone out there ever swapped an S2000 steering wheel in a 92-95 Civic? I have a 95 Civic EX coupe with SRS, horn, and cruise control. I need those steering wheel systems to work just as designed.
Here's what I think know so far:
1) The splines are different. The only 2 ways I know to get around this are to swap in a 96-00 EK steering column with the correct splines, or to cut the EK spline end off and have it machined and welded to my existing steering column.
2) I should be able to adapt the S2000 steering wheel wiring (cruise, horn, and SRS) to my existing wire harness coming up the steering column.
3) My original air bag is single stage and the S2000 air bag is dual stage.
4) Both air bags are 2 ohm impedance.
The $64K question is........if I am sucessful, will my current OEM SRS control unit have any electrical compatibility problems (voltage, impedance, etc.) with the different airbag causing either a premature or lack of deployment? I have called dozens of dealers and Honda of America and it appears to be Top Secret information because of CYA issues. I am convinced if done correctly, that this will be just as safe as the current OEM design in the EG Civic.

IIRC the airbag wont function as it should.

The airbags are on the same impedance, but the 92-95 SRS computer wont reconize the dual stage on the S2000. I wouldnt trust my life to that because if it malfunctions it can ignore the stages and blow it out WAY too hard for the impact created, also it has a different timing delay with the impact sensors for the S2K. The 92-95 are either fire or dont fire. The S2K actually senses the force of the impact and the SRS computer fires the airbags at different stages/times/etc.

could he use s2000 srs unit and impack sensors and wiring harnes it would cast a lot im crazy hu never mind the s2000 srs also reads car speed(air bags only blow above like 10mph?) i woudent know what to do about that just forget the srs if you want this wheel

Since I originally posted, I have been told that only the 2006+ S2000 airbags are dual stage, and the '00-'05 air bags are single stage. Can anyone else out there confirm that for me? The unit I have is from the '00-'03 S2000.

if you want I can look into it more seriously, but I am 99% it wont work unless you do an entire transplant of the S2K SRS system

My design philosophy for the entire car build is to make the car appear as OEM as possible, even though half the car has OEM parts from other Hondas and Acuras. I believe in having an airbag since most modern cars (especially Honda) might as well be a rolling piece of tin foil in a crash. If I had an old muscle car or a truck, then an air bag wouldn't matter.
