Default What gets the HX the good gas mileage?

My '96 HX has a tranny that is going bad. I bought it especially because of the stellar gas mileage it gets. Now I'm trying to decide what to do about the transmission.

I know a good part of the reason behind the good mileage is the engine. But what I'm wondering is, how much of a part does the HX transmission play in that? If I were to swap a DX transmission in, would I have noticeable negative effects on gas mileage? I can tell from looking around that an HX transmission will cost a bit more, and I will have to drive farther to get one, so thought I'd ask. Anyone know?

I don't know. Not sure where to find out. That'd be perfect if they did.

I guess my next question owuld be, regardless of effect on gas mileage, would a DX be compatible with the vtec-e engine?
