Continuing CEL Problem - Help please!

Hello all, new member here with an ongoing CEL problem:

I have a 1998 Acura 2.3 CL - AT - with 152,000 miles.

I have had a CEL problem now for over a year.

CEL code is P1381 Cylinder Position CYP Sensor Interm. Interruption.

The light doesn't flash;just comes on & stays on..
The car hesitates horribly upon acceleration, as well as at a constant speed.
Car has not yet stalled on me, but acts like it wants to; only sometimes idles rough & bogs down while trying to accelerate until it feels like it "kicks in" and catches up.

CEL will come on & after a long enough period of time & trips, the CEL will go off. Somtimes the light stays off for 10 miles; sometimes for 2,000 miles, but the CEL code is always the same.

Car has been in & out of the shop a million times.

Mechanic has followed Acura procedure/flow chart & has replaced (about 50% of it at his own $ expense) all items concerning this code, such as:
The distributor & all parts surrounding distributor
The computer
Has replaced all plugs, wires, etc.
Has done complete tune up, including replacing the timing belt
Has replaced fuel filter
Has ran check on fuel pump 3-4 times (diagnostic tool indicates function @ 100%)
Has examined & tested v-tech 3-4 times & all is working properly
Has checked all he can for bad connections
Has replaced the ignition coil

All parts have that have been replaced are Acura.

My mechanic even took my car to the Acura dealership & they are at a loss because he has done everything they have indicated..

The mechanic believes there is a bad/weak connection somewhere, but he can't find it. Again, the hesitation/cylinder misfiring is not constant, but the hotter the temperature is outside, the worse the car runs & the more it hesitates.

When the temp. drops outside, the car runs better...

Does anyone have any ideas what in the world could be causing all of this?

The mechanic is stuck. Is there anything else, unrelated to this P1381 code that can trigger this misfire??

I apologize for using any incorrect terms because I don't know squat about cars, but I know the mechanic has done all he knows to do & he has done all that Acura was going to do.

Any help out there would be greatly appreciated.

If anyone needs more info., I will gladly get it for you...

Thank you.

Well, he bought (3) different used distributors from a used parts supplier.

Then he installed each one and ran the car with each different distributor.

There was no change.

Thinking that perhaps all 3 used distributors were possibly defective, he bought a brand new distributor from the Acura dealership in Kentwood, MI.

The new one made no difference...

See if he can do a charging system test on the car. In particular, you are looking for a faulty diode in the alternator.

There is a coil shield installed on the ignition coil, right?

You are correct; there is a coil shield installed.

My mechanic claims that he has already run a charging system test several different times on my car & he can't find anything...

I had a very similiar problem on my Mazda Protege-5.

It turned out to being the PCV valve that needed to be replaced.

Timing belt?

Did anyone check the timing marks when they replaced the timing belt?
Sometimes the belt might jump a tooth or two prior to replacing and if you do not match timing marks the engine will run funky.
