97 3.0cl lowbeams just stopped working!!

Hi, I'm new here. My 97 3.0cl lowbeam headlights just stopped working. They were dim previous to this but from what I'm reading here, that's somewhat normal. The bulbs are fine as are the fuses. Help!! Any suggestions on what to try next? The auto parts store suggested the lighting relay, but, being female, I don't know what that does exactly. I do know where it is however from looking at the fuse boxes. Linda
