Default Check Engine light on, and harder/slower shifting, AT Tranny

My check engine light is on, (not the first time) and the tranny is slow in shifting, and it jerks a bit when it shifts. It happens this way when im just takn it easy. Can anyone tell me what i should do? Is this a major problem?

I'm going out on a limb here...

Have someone plug in an OBD II and get the code?

But hey, that's just me.

Places like AutoZone will do it for free, I have my own. I can plug in my laptop for the info.

What kinda car you got?, If its a 6th gen V6 then its a common problem which is a bad tranny.

And yeah get the code checked from Autozone and let us know, we'll try to help fix the problem if we can.

cheers

Autozone's computers aren't that great, but if it's a P07xx, you'll probably need a new transmission. Your dealership might goodwill warranty it if you're a good customer of theirs, but they'll have to rediagnose it anyway.

Yeah, definitely take it in. That's something we'd replace a trans on, and since you just bought the car, I don't see why they wouldn't goodwill warranty it.

I got a P0700 - P0740 CEL and all I had to do was replace the Lockup Control Solenoid.
Just because your getting a tranny error code doesnt really mean its time for a replacement.
Post the exact codes as you've been given by Autozone and well see from there what the problem may be.

P0740 is a torque converter failure, and you're lucky as hell if all you needed was a solenoid.

Yea that was it, so how much will it cost to get it checked out, or fixed, and i like doing everything myself, so would that be a doable thing?
