Default Governor limited? How about not?

Hi

I know my Accord has some sort of chip (I think) that limits the car after certain top speed and possibly even makes it accelerate slower after certain high speed (i.e. 80 mph).

Can this chip be removed and something else placed instead? How much? Where? Does it hurt the engine?

Thx

if your talkinb about the top speed limiter then you can get a chipped ecu that has it removed.. i doubt it hurts the engine since it was put in there from the factory..

the speed governer(for the ones that have them) is around 121 (more or less)... it doesnt effect acceleration... just top speed

I can't really see a use for removing the governer. If you're driving any close to the limit, you're really going to kill yourself.

Hit a pothole at 120 mph, your tire could explode. Exploding tire at that speed = death.
Hit an animal at 120mph, it's like hitting a brick.

No, I am not driving anywhere as fast (80 mph the most at times). However, I heard it also affects acceleration?

I never noticed any drop in power above 80 mph in 3rd 4th or 5th gears. The only thing noticeable above 80 is that the wind drag becomes more noticeable... perhaps it just seems like the power is lower. On a long straight road without any other cars, I've run her up to about 120 indicated. I never hit a limiter, but it wasn't accerating very much anymore. The car accelerated about how I expected for it's pwoer and size.

Overall the car is pretty slow and not meant for speed. If I want to go fast I have my motorcycle. I only need less than 1/2 mile from a rolling start to get up to 160+... instead of almost 1 mile in the Accord just to get to 120.

And how would you know that? Just because I posted that? Aren't you a bit full of it? What gives you the right to preach to anyone? Have you ever heard of tracks where you can safely push your car to the limit?

Get off your high horse - this ain't a church so stop preaching.

Naw, all it does is cap your top speed. Hit the limiter, your car will slow down automatically.

Is your accord a manual or automatic. Also, is it an EX, LX, SE or V6?
I have a 00 EX manual and I've hit 150 but it took a while to do so.
The V6 has a better/quicker chance of doing that because of the power. The 4cyl auto is basically drag limited. With a manual, it's possible, but takes time. So make sure you have a lot of road.
BUT, as previously stated, there's no need to raise/remove the limiter IF you have one. How often do you drive 150mph.
