Default Correct Tire Size?

I got a 94 EX Sedan. The original tire is 175/65/14. Can I put a 195/65/14 without clearance problem? Needs answer asap. TIA?

It will not be off slightly - it will be off by alot. And I don't think you can fit a tire that wide on the stock rims. The car will feel mushy with sidewalls bulging out.

Sorry if I was incorrect. I looked at the tire calculator at http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html

According to that site, "Speedometer reading with non-stock tire is 4.5% to slow. When your speedo reads 60mph, you are actually traveling 62.7 mph."

If that site is correct, I consider that to be a slight difference.

As far as it fitting on a stock wheel, I don't know. I know that 5th gen. coupes (with the same stock wheel) come with 185/60/14 tires. I didn't think it would be that much bigger to go to the 195's.

You deffinately know you shit about tires/wheels/suspension much more that I do. Sorry if I was wrong.

In order to put a 195 tire on a 5.5" wheel you need to find someone with 1) huge arms, and 2) the balls to put the tire on that wheel. Some people will just laugh and some will looked scared

I put 195/55x14" Kumho DOT R tires on my 14x5.5" wheels back when I 1st started autocrossing. Took two HUGE guys to get it on the rim. I know another shop that used gasoline, a match and sunlight to get 225/45x15" DOT R tires on 15x6" rims. There was an explosion and the bead finally seated on the wheel.

If it doesn't fit...
Oh well, I already ordered the tires from discounttiredirect.com yesterday.
I have concerns but they assured me it will fit.
Their web site even indicated that 195/65/14 is an alternative replacement tire size. If it doesn't work-out, they must help me get the right size.

I checked the stock rims, it says on there 4x5J and it's got 175/65/14.
But I only got 2 of these mounted in the front. I gave the other 2 to my niece.

A friend gave me his set of 4 rims with 195/60/14 Goodyear Eagle HP. These came from his 91 Teg. The wheels are stamped 4x5.5JJ. All tires need to be replaced. I mounted 2 in the back. The side wall did not look like they were bulging-out too much at all. IDK, perhaps the tires are too old.

I will use the 4 Teg wheels when I get the new Falken Ziex ZE 512 tires for they may be half an inch wider, idk for sure...I don't have a big caliper to measure.

I shelled out $207 shipped with Lifetime Warranty againts anything bad happening to the tires plus 4 chromed sleeve rubber valve stems. I think it's a good deal. Local Discount Tire will mount and balance them for me.

I will tell you what will happen next.

Looks good to me on the width. 195 is 20 milimeters more than 175. Big deal. BUT, 65% of 20mm is 13mm X 2 is a 26mm taller tire overall (one inch) X 3.14 is a tire that is 82 milimeters LARGER IN CIRCUMFRENCE. Wharbone said it would throw the speedo by 4.5%. The bigger concern here is that these tires are going to make the car have an effective taller gear. Slower car off the line and harder on the clutch or auto. Harder to pull up hills etc. Not a huge difference but it'll be there! On the other hand, maybe you'll get better MPG on the highway? People say I think to much. Discuss...

BTW. Do the world a favor and don't be one of those people who tell everyone that their speedometer is off by 2.7MPH, but rather 4.5%!!! I hate that.
