Default 04 Honda Accord LX question: air filter change?

Hey guys,

How often does the air filter need to be changed? I got my oil changed today, and the guy said that I should change the air filter. Wasn't sure if he was just trying to make some extra $$. I had the dealership "minor service" at 12000 miles, which I believe includes an airfilter change. The car currently has 18000 miles on it. It seems like 6000 miles on an air filter would be too short. Or could it be possible that the dealership did not change the air filter at 12000 mile minor service??

thanks!

Brian

doesn't honda recommend 30K mile interval for normal service on the air filter?

I've heard 15K, I've heard every 2 oil changes ... just take a look at the filter. If it needs changing, do it, if not, don't worry about it.

It depands on how dusty it is where you live. It's fairly dusty by me and I changed it at 15,000 miles. One general rule is that if you hold it up to a light and it becomes difficult for light to pass through the filter, it's time to change it.

Overall, Its not that critical. Air filters would be much larger if it was. For most driving you don't need very much air. It's only when you get into the high RPM's and high throttle positions that a clean air filter makes a noticeable difference.

If you are too lazy to open the box and look for yourself, then you deserve to pay someone to tell you it needs to be changed.
