I have the same CEL right now and my car is the same year n' model... I've noticed that if I disconnected the battery cable and reset the ECU by doing so, that CEL will appear a few days later again. I'm guessing it has to do with the Catalytic Converter being damaged. What kind of Cat do you have?

i have just a stock cat right now. i also disconnected my battery cable 2 times and it comes right back on the next day. I ordered a new high flo cat and im going to change my O2 sensors and see what happens. got any other ideas?

Later on my car was had intermittent missing from the ECU being fried by an exposed ignition wire inside the distributor, I drove the car while it was missing(slightly stumbing on acceleration) on for about 3 months. Then I fixed that problem, then like a week later that check engine light appeared. I'm guessing my cat just damaged inside due to the misfiring. It doesn't seem to hurt performance, unless it leans out the fuel mixture, but that light is an eyesore.

i had an MSD pro cap with an external blaster 2 coil on my car. I had 2 different problems with the coil wire being exposed inside the cap and causing misfire, but i didnt drive on it no longer then a week. but the 3rd time the ground wire to the coil grounded out to the motor and my whole car turned off while driving down the road. that same night is when the check engine light first came on. so looks like we have had the same problem. is your light still on?

Yeah the light is still on. I had the MSD Blaster SS Coil, MSD Pro Cap, and the MSD SCI Ignition Control Module. Yeah the wires going to the Igniter from the ignition control module i believe shorted my ecu out, I had to get ecu repaired. I just used a rubber compound to insulate the connectors that are on the igniter so spark doesn't arc over from the rotor damaging the ecu once again.
If replacing the o2 sensors and cat doesn't work, i don't know what will.

how do i know if my ecu is messed up? i just went ahead and removed the blaster coil and cap and put my stock coil back in. i ordered a new stock msd cap and rotor and when i get that on ill replace my spark plugs as well. it might be a week or so until i get my new cat put on. ill keep you informed.
