i wouldnt want to mess with tryen to remove or install a windshield on my own. i would leave that up to the pros if i were you. you need special tools depending on the car. also you have to deal with that really messy glue. it has to be done proper so that way when your on the highway it doesnt end up flying off! or even having to deal with hearing that drafty wind noise!... id save the hassel and just pay a pro.
1 other major problem....LEAKS!!!

I had a windshield replaced on a 2003 Civic EX coupe for $175. The lowest price was $155 from Safelite. I pay the extra money to get a US made windshield. I am unsure on where the Safelite ones are made. I have used Safelite before, and not really impressed with the durability of the glass.
I would have a profesional do it, as recommended above. I have helped change a windshield on a 91 Audi 100, and it was not really a hard job, but the guy I helped knew what he was doing. We had all the required tools since we did it in a local body shop.
