Starting/Ignition trouble with my 1996 acura integra

Hello all,

I'm new to this forum and have not done any DIY projects on my acura before. I thought now would be a good time to learn. My car was jacked into and the ignition key system was broken (along with some things from the door side). After recovering the car, I was able to start it and drive without any problems. However, while driving I noticed that it started giving me the "Check Engine Light" indicator. Once I stopped and parked the car I tried starting the car a couple more times - still saw the CEL. However, after the couple of tries the entire ignition system seems to have died down. I can no longer start my car! I can only turn my keys into the ignition but nothing happens - absolutely nothing. It's not the battery either since I tried jump starting it (also, the headlights work). It almost looks like I blew some fuse - but all wiring seems to be intact. The car isn't even making an attempt to start - I hear no noises at all - just "clicking" of the key - that's it! Is there anything that I can do to fix this problem by myself? I would really appreciate an response.

Thanks

on my 94 rs i had that problem once...I think it was because after i turned off the engine i moved the steering wheel and that messed with the ignition. I moved the steering wheel around a bit (don't force it, just sort of wiggle it), and try the ignition.

Thanks for the suggestion. I did try it but no luck. It did stop working after I fiddled with my steering wheel position after I had turned off the ignition though. Is there any way to reset it back to it's original setting? Or is there a reset button somewhere to indicate that use the new steering wheel position for future ignition purposes? Appreciate any response.

Thanks,

your ignition switch is probably broken. do you have tools like a digital multimeter? if you do, i will post up on how to test the wiring to confirm its switch.

I don't know of any way to reset the wheel to it's original setting(without starting up the ignition)..it just started up for me after i fiddled with the wheel...Oh and my CEL did NOT go on at any time so you probably have a different problem

Hi,
I can borrow a digital multimeter from someone (or, in the worst case, I will just go and buy one). Could you please let me know the wiring test to confirm that its the switch which is giving me the problem. I appreciate it.

Thanks,
