Nope. There's no need.

If you've got your owner's manual, it has instructions on how to remove the headlamp bulb socket from the back of the headlight housing. It's a little cramped back there, so be sure to keep the new headlamp bulbs clean as you plug the socket back into the headlight housing.

And, as with all halogen bulbs, DO NOT TOUCH THE GLASS BULB. Oil deposits from your skin will heat up and cause the glass to shatter. If you touch the bulb glass by accident, use isopropyl alcohol to clean the bulbs before installing them.

Tune-up and Major/Minor Service Question

I am a new teg owner..

and my teg hit 30k and needs a tune-up.

what is the difference of minor tune-up @ every 7,500 miles verses major tune-up @ every 30,000 miles?

if I get the major tune-up, do I still need to do the minor tune-up every 7,500?

would the service repair manual give info on how to do all these self-services?

thanks

Hi, welcome to the board.

What model and year of Integra do you have?

If you're mechanically inclined, then I definitely recommend buying the HELMS Factory Shop Manual. Brillant directions, stellar diagrams. You could literally build a car with that book. www.helmsinc.com , if memory serves.

The Owner's Manual has a chart that breaks down what each service entails, but it provides little in the way of instruction for the more involved service items..

In general, a 7500 mile service will consist of fluids and filters (new motor oil & filter, confirm transmission fluid level, confirm coolant pH and quantity, etc.) A 30K mile service will be more extensive. Inspection of suspension, drivetrain, brakes, possible replacement of brake pads, hoses, belts.

The VTEC-equipped motors use mechanical valve lash adjusters, while the non-VTEC motors use conventional hydraulic VLAs. So at 90K, valve lash is inspected and adjusted.

Also, there are critcal mileage & time-dependent service items. The most important of these is the timing belt, tensioner & water pump replacement. Every 90K miles OR every six years (whichever is sooner), all three must be replaced. It's imperative to the life of the motor.

All of the B-series motors are an "interference" design, meaning that valves and pistons WILL collide if the timing belt snaps with the motor running. If the tensioner fails, the belt will go slack. If the water pump siezes, the belt can shred teeth and slip.

So, be mindful about servicing the car and they'll run forever.

Does anyone know where to get a "fast idle thermo valve"? When my engine is cold the idle speed bounces between 1500 and 2000 most of the time. I was told by an Acura mechanic that the F.I.T. valve was what needed replaced. My Haynes manual says the same thing. But no parts stores seem to think that the part exists. Suggestions?

valve adjustment

I am going to be adjusting the valves on my integra its a 96 LS special. B18B1 motor. I know about adjusting them I just wanted to know the tolerance gap i.e. on an H23 prelude its .003 intake and .006 exhaust and the pistons are 4-3-2-1, is it the same on the B18B1??? Thank You very much!

Yes, assuming you have ABS, all ABS equipped B-series axles should work fine.

If your car isn't OBD0 or OBD1, you don't have a FITV. Try checking the IACV and cleaning it out. If in fact your FITV is shot, you will probably have to check the dealership or a local parts yard.

could the FITV be the culprit for a low idle at startup/when the car is cold? Also, are all the brake calipers the same for 3rd gen tegs, or is there a difference between trim levels (i.e ls vs. gsr)?

Maint

- 2001 GS-r - When the Mnt Reqd light flashes, then after a while stays on, is that saying that Honda/Acura wants money cause nothing is wrong with the car? Because i never go to the maintence, or could there actually be something wrong with the car that i'm unaware of at the moment? As of now i have around 44,300 miles.

you changed your clutch, or clutch fluid? maybe you should try bleeding your clutch fluid? and honestly i would go with honda mtf for your tranny fluid. nothing works better.

power steering fluid

I read that it may not be good to use other power steerig fluids besides Honda PS fluid. Is there really any truth to this? I have a pain-in-the-ass power steering leak and i've been having to get a bottle every week or so. I was getting it from the acura dealership but now I don't live very close to there so I've just been using what they sell at Autozone. Is that stuff ok to use or what?

lizzie - yes.
red94teg - not sure, but i'd say worry about your leak first, then be picky about what fluid to use. better to run the wrong fluid than to run it dry.

I would be highly picky about the wrong fluid. A blown steering rack is a lot harder to deal with than a few minutes longer to get the correct fluid. But yes, there is a difference between normal PS fluid and Honda PS fluid.

Have you checked all the ports for any clogging? I would remove that FITV and IACV and check to make sure that air is getting to the manifold unobstructed. If everything is clear, double check the IACV and then you probably need a new FITV.

Here is the testing procedure right out of the Helms manual for the FITV:

1. Remove the intake duct from the throttle body.
2. Start the Engine.
3. Put your finger over the lower port in throttle body and make sure that there is air flow with the engine cold (ECT under 86 degrees F).

If not, replace the FITV and retest.

leave the wires on when you remove the cap. pretty straight-forward. switch the wires onto the new cap, then re-install. i like doing it this way so i don't have to worry about mixing up the wires.

The code for the CEL in my 2000 GSR coudln't be read by the DIY trick or the computer at the dealership - turned out my OBD died and needed to be replaced (under warrenty). That may be your case as well.

go to autozone and buy a vacuum bleeder for $30. just bleed each caliper until you have clear fluid coming out, starting with the farthest one out (right rear) and working your way closer. do a search for more detailed info. pretty easy. search for "bleed brakes"

Replacing fenders/bumper

I just got an 87 Integra and it needs bumpers, front and rear and fenders on both right and left. I'm having trouble finding them and the ones I did find are so expensive I could buy another car for the prices. Are any of these parts interchangeable with other models that might be more common?

86-89 integra... check junkyards...or check your local tow-yards. sometimes people abandon cars and the yards sell the cars for nothing...you might be able to score an entire parts car.
