I know this is a little off topic, but what are track days like and how much do they cost?

How hard is it to start your own thread? Really?
Track days are like this:
Track days are like this:
- You arrive
- get your car teched
- make sure everything on your car is safe
- put a helmet on
- drive
- pull into pits
- wait for the next session
- drive
- pull into pits
- if there's time there will be another session

There are also classroom sessions also, the can cost any where from 250-500 depending on the number of days and which group is running them. I would check any group you decide to run with out fully before paying for them, be sure you will have an instructor in car with you, there will be corner workers and ev people at the event, these are some of these that will keep you safe.

I ran my 1st track day back in 2002 with NASA at VIR. Talk about SUPER DUPER fun. We got 3 sessions both days at about 20 minutes - which did NOT feel very long at all. Learned alot of my autocrossing skills helped. Late braking, apex, and stuff. But things at a track happen alot slower. Turning, shifting and such.
But also realize the risk is higher too compared to an autocross. You go off at an autocross and you may mow down some cones. You go off at a track and you could meet Mr. Concrete/Rubber Tire Wall = bad for car!

I pay about $100 for a 2-3 hour hot lapping session which nets me 20-25 laps on a 2.5 km course. That is more than enough for the day.
Don't forget the cost of gas, new engine oil, tirewear and other costs that come with racing.

yeah, I want to give it all a try in the nexr 2-3 years, I am definently going to start with auto-x though probably next month.
It's just the high speed of the track must be quite a rush.
