Default How to: Polish a lip on your rims!

Alright so my friend has some 17" black Rota Slips on his STi, and he decided he wanted to polish the lip!

Sadly we didn't have a camera to take pics of the process, but I will make sure I cover everything in detail.

1. Alright, so first take OFF the wheels, haha.
2. CLEAN wheels THOROUGHLY, make sure ALL brake dust and CRAP is off.
3. Buy aircraft remover from your local wal-mart.
4. Buy A three piece brush set from Home Depot or Lowe's, it's in the paint section, it comes wtih like one brass brush, one steel brush, and one plastic one.
5. Alright, now tape off the tire and rest of the wheel that you DONT want to be polished.
6. Spray Aircraft Remover in a cup, make sure you shake it before so it's foamy.
7. take the black brush, dip it in the A.Remover, and start to spread it on the lip of the rim, be careful, this shit burns when it gets on your hands.
8. After scrubing the Aircraft Remover all over the lip, let it sit for 5-10 minutes.
9. Take the gold colored or steel brush and scrape off all the paint and primer the Aircraft Remover takes off.
10. Repeat putting Aircraft Remover on and scrubing and scraping until most of paint and primer are off the lip.
11. After you get ~99% of the paint/primer off, get some 220 and 400 grit sand paper.
12. Start with the 220, get all the extra paint and primer off, sand the WHOLE lip.
13. Then use the 400 grit sand paper, and go over the wholeeee lip, making it smooth as a babies butt.
14. Use a wheel "polish" to get that shine and you are done!

This was my friend and I's first time doing this, and we thought it turned out extremely well. It took us about 2 and a half hours on each rim.

Here are some pictures or before and after, and the materials we used.
