Default OBD1 engine in a 97 GSR?

I have a 97 GSR thats currently propelled by an older(OBD1) B18c1. Im not quite sure what year the motor really is, but judging by the two connectors at the distributor I assume that its pre 95. So. If Ive got an OBD1 engine harness plugged in to a 2000 GSR computer...what kind of problems should I be having? Besides legal problems with the state of California for an illegal swap.

The swap will be illegal in California for sure. You cannot plug an OBD1 harness into an OBD2 computer. You will need to get an OBD1 P72 to run it.

It'll be illegal even with aon OBD1 P72 in CA...the engine has to be the same year as the car or newer. They'll know its an OBD1.

No, no the car is current and running. Thats what puzzles me. I dont see any conversion harness, or chop and splice sections in any of the harnesses. Im running a stock p72-a02. I know my motor has a distributor with two wires. My wiring all tests acorrding to spec with refference to the haynes diagram. what shouldnt work with this set up?

Are you sure that it is an OBD2 computer? P72's exist in both OBD1 and OBD2.

An OBD1 harness will not fit in an OBD2 computer. No if, ands, or buts about it.

An OBD2 ecu won't run an OBD1 motor because it's looking for a good deal of sensors that are not available on an OBD1 motor. If you have an OBD1 motor, you MUST run an OBD1 ecu.

Ive been driving the car. Connector at ECU OBD2 for sure, ECU OBD2 for sure. Distributor has 2 connectors for sure(OBD1). The car is even running"for sure". I took the car In trade...didnt even realize what was wrong with the setup until I had been driving it for a month. I didnt even have any real issues until I went to remove some of the crap the previous owner had slapped on. There was a tach under the hood that was wired to a shift light on the column. The solenoid under the manifold (GSR) had its o.g. connector on the harness disconnected. It was then jumped onto the tach that was under the hood. There was also a 2 pin connector on the distributor that had one wire(blue) also tapped into the tach. I removed tach and restored wiring to stock and now Ive got no secondaries?
