Default What octane for 97 Prelude...

What octane should I use for my 97 Prelude SH. I know the sticker says Premium Fuel only... but is it absolutely necessary?... I know it's a high-compression motor...

What do you guys use and do you guys notice any difference in mileage or power between regular and premium.

thanks

91 at LEAST. Your car will start knocking and your knock sensor will have lots of fun with you if you put in less than 91.

I've never put anything but 91 and up in mine, and I've had it since it was brand new. It still runs great, and I shutter to think of how it would run if I cheapened on the gas.

Don't cheap out, use premium only. I know gas prices suck, but not that bad.

use 91, but a tank of 87 won't make the car explode.

the ECU will pull timing and the car will drive like shit, but it's not disastrous.
