Default Prelude Calendar is back! We need your photos!

2005-2006 Prelude Calendar Submission Thread!

It's back! :bigthumb:

BASIC INFO
Monday, May 16th, 2005 is the a hard deadline for submissions. After that
day, NO pictures will be accepted. Period. You'll have about month to
submit your pictures, or take a bunch of new ones, so no excuses.

Also, there will NOT be a million different voting threads this time around.
That was partly the result of people submitting pictures after the deadline
(see above) and partly because of poll limitations on PO. I'll either make
one mega-thread for voting, or have it hosted offsite (volunteers
appreciated).

Voting will go for one week, from May 17th to May 24th, 2005. Neel and Raman
want to have this thing printed and rolling out by mid-June, which is the
month the current calendar ends. The next calendar should be able to pick up
where this one left off. If it's 18 months like the current one, it'll be
July 2005 - December 2006 (which works out quite nicely ).

Cost is anticipated to be ~$20 shipped.

If you would like to help us out, we will once again be assembling a team of
photoshop experts to touch up the pictures and prep them for printing. Let
us know if you're interested. If you were on the team last year, we've got
spots waiting for you.

And, of course, this project is non profit, just like last time. All
we need to do is break even, which happened last time at 100 calendars sold.

PICTURE QUALITY GUIDELEINES

Here are the kinds of things we're looking for in a good calendar shot:
  • The entire car should fit (possible exception for artistic shots)
  • The car should be the primary focus
  • No people/other cars/random stuff, or very few if they don't get in the
    way
  • Colorful, vivid, well-lit, high quality picture
  • The shot should have aesthetic appeal
  • Crazy angles not necessary (keep it tasteful)
  • Interesting background, or no background at all (solid colors, night,
etc.) - not as big an issue
  • Car should be clean, well prepped (you all do this anyway)
  • Multiple cars are OK if all of them meet the above requirements
  • Submit unedited originals in full resolution. Don't crop or
    resize or anything.
  • We're shooting for 11"x7" calendar pages, so the pictures must be very
high quality. There is no strict minimum resolution (considering DPI, MP,
etc.), but use common sense. 1024x768 won't cut it. I think 3MP+ would be
preferred, but someone can correct me if that's too low or too high a
    minimum.
  • If your picture already made it to the calendar last time we did this,
you can't submit it again. But feel free to submit pics that didn't make
    the cut before.
Try not to be too biased cause it's your car. A good rule of thumb is that
if your picture is desktop-worthy for someone ELSE, it's calendar-worthy for us.

Also, if your picture does not meet the requirements, we may filter it out
before voting begins. Don't take it personal. If your picture doesn't make a
good calendar candidate, we'd rather make room for a better one.

SUBMISSION GUIDELINES
Send your pictures to soniclude@charter.net. Put
"PreludeOnline Calendar Submission" in the subjet.

In the email, include:
  • Your name
  • Your screen name and site that you are from
  • The year, color, model, designation, etc. of your car
  • A short list of major mods
  • A link to each picture you're submitting. If you have a gallery, select
the best few pictures and direct link to them.
  • It's better to submit a few excellent pictures instead of alot of average
ones. If the picture doesn't make you go then you might want to
    reconsider.
A link is highly preferred since I don't want my box to overflow with high
quality attachments. But if you REALLY can't get it hosted, then go ahead
and attach one picture first, and tell me in the email if you have other
shots. That way I can DL the first one and tell you when you can send more.

Feel free to contribute pictures of cars that aren't yours as long as you
can give ALL of the information described above.

VOTING GUIDELINES

The voting thread or website will be set up after the submission deadline,
but here are the rules.
  • Vote for every picture that you would want to see in a
calendar. You are not voting for the car specifically. You can choose as
many or as few shots of the same car as you like.
  • Don't worry about small imperfections in the picture, such as random
debris, background stuff, and license plates, since we'll pshop them out
    later.

RESULTS GUIDELINES
  • If we do the 18-month calendar, the top 25 pictures will be ranked,
to allow for alternates. Pictures will be ranked by number of votes.
  • Each car is only allowed one picture in the top 25, so if it has multiple
pictures voted in, only its best picture will be selected.
  • The pictures not selected for individual months may once again be
incorporated into the cover design, but this isn't set in stone yet.

That's everything I've got for now. Suggestions and comments are totally
welcome. Post away!

Hey,
I want to buy a calendar when they come out but I don't check this board every day, and I know you have a limited time for order submissions before you print. How will I know when you're taking orders/when do you expect it to happen?

Thanks,

-Dan

Voting for pictures to be used in the calendar will be May 17-24. Then we will go ahead and photoshop the images, and clean them up to be used.

Final printing will be done by the first week in June, and orders will be made at the same time.

Look for order placement at the time of voting completion, or around the end of May.

Neel
